Can I Exercise?

Exercise is important, unless you have been advised against it by your doctor. We recommend: walking, cycling, and swimming, yoga and low impact aerobics.

You sweat more during pregnancy so drink plenty of fluids.

If you find yourself out of breath, decrease the intensity, work longer, not harder.

After your 5th month, avoid exercising on your back, as this decreases blood flow to you and your baby. Avoid any exercise that could cause you to fall. Your center of gravity changes as your baby grows

Can I Travel?

Traveling by car, bus or airplane is safe for healthy pregnant women is ok as long as you are able to get up and walk frequently.

Always were your seatbelt and bring along a pillow for your comfort on long journeys. Make sure you drink lots of fluids and bring a nutritious snack. Avoid caffeine. Plan on walking around every two hours to keep the blood flowing and use the bathroom. Always check with the airlines regarding their rules for flying pregnant.

 

Can I Have Sex?

Sex is safe and does not harm the baby. You must avoid intercourse if you have bleeding, cramping or pre-term  contractions.

You may have more or less interest in sex. It's normal to have more interest in sex due to the increased blood flow to the pelvic area and larger, firmer breasts. But then again you may have lees interest in sex due to nausea, fatigue, tender breasts and fear. Or you just may have many mixed feeling. It is important to have open communication in your relationship.

Do not have sex if you have:
Vaginal or abdominal pain.
Blood or fluid leaking from your vagina.

Or if you have been advised not to by your Doctor.

 

Is there anything I can do for the nausea?

Sometimes women can feel queasy in the early stage of pregnancy due to the rapid increase in hormones. This is nausea or morning sickness, which can occur anytime of day or night, and can last minutes or all day. This will usually improve by the 2nd trimester.

Things to do to try to prevent nausea:
Eat dry crackers before getting out of bed, wait 5- 10 minutes, then get up slowly
Eat small amounts of food frequently, a bite or two every half-hour.
Do not eat large meals on an empty stomach.
What to try if:

Things to try to settle your stomach:
Ginger ale , ginger cookies. Cut up watermelon or cantaloupe. Flavored Popsicles.
Dry toast, bagel or Melba toast.
Sea bands may also help.

 

I seem to be getting a cold, any suggestions?

For a cold we recommend you take Tylenol cold and sinus.
And for a cough you may take plain Robutussin.

 

Can I take something for a headache?

For a headache take Tylenol.

 

What about Mosquito Repellant?

For mosquito repellant you may use Avon's Skin so Soft.

 

Sometimes I experience Constipation or Indigestion, what can I do about that?

To help avoid constipation and indigestion, increase your water intake and eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies.
